JOB SUMMARY:

Under the supervision of the PMO Director, the Sound composer II works closely with graphic designers, 2D/3D motion designers and programmers  who work together to produce dynamic, entertaining and engaging gaming experiences, according to the themes, mechanics and targeted markets.

He or she is responsible for composing, arranging, designing, mixing and mastering high level music and soundscapes for the Company’s games, and ensure their quality.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Essential duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

  • Composes, records, arranges, mixes and makes masters of music according to the theme of the game and targeted market;
  • Under supervision, creates the appropriate dynamic between the sound design and music for each part of the game, considering the theme, the game mechanics and animations;
  • Conceptualizes, creates and integrates interactive and linear sound designs in respect with requirements;
  • Works actively in the understanding of games and shares ideas (timing, scenario, etc.);
  • With assistance from the supervisor, defines the needs of a project and evaluates the time required;
  • Establishes and maintains an effective communication throughout the production with programmers, graphic artists and the Quality Assurance department;
  • Prepares the documentation needed by programmers to clearly communicate the detailed and desired sound sequences;
  • Tests the game’s sound results, taking in consideration the player’s experience, and submits/validates any required modification throughout the production process;
  • Participates in test/mentoring sessions with the supervisor;
  • Follows up on the project schedule submitted by the manager;
  • With assistance from the supervisor, ensures a balance of the final sound elements on cabinets intended for casinos;
  • Under supervision, looks for voice artists and works and/or edits voices for games;
  • Seeks to develop knowledge in the casino game industry and analyzes trends in the market.
  • Maintains the work structure;
  • Other projects and duties as assigned by manager.

REQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Diploma specialized in a musical discipline or equivalent experience (university studies in composition, an asset);
  • Audio training or equivalent experience;
  • Professional experience in orchestration/musical arrangement (an asset);
  • Excellent knowledge of audio production tools [Pro Tools – Wavelab] or equivalent;
  • Experience with the main virtual instruments [EastWest, Native Instruments, Omnisphere…];
  • 2 to 4 years of professional experience in audio, computer-assisted music production, mixing and sound editing (in game development, an asset);
  • Delivery of a minimum of 2 casino video games (or equivalent);
  • Good organizational skills, attention to detail and time management;
  • Experience with Unity or other gaming tools and devices;
  • Broad knowledge of musical aesthetics and multicultural musical experience;
  • Excellent communication skills in French;
  • Good oral and written knowledge of English;
  • Very good analytical and synthesis skills;
  • Ability to simultaneously work on multiple projects;
  • Knowledge of management software such as Easy Redmine, Jira or other (an asset);
  • Excellent teamwork and adaptability skills;
  • Mastery of one or more musical instruments;
  • Passionate for video games;
  • Able to work independently and within a team.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee is also regularly required to stand, walk, sit, and use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls;
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus;
  • Depending on the position, may have to travel locally, nationally or internationally.
